This is a practical design element to ensure the black elastic toggle doesn't get in the way of your face, like it would do if placed in the centre. When pulled tight, more of the cord comes through to the front, so as the toggle is positioned to the side, it shouldn't get in the way.

To construct the toggle and keep it securely in place, we use black elastic cord, a silver nickel plated eyelet and a leather washer. The leather washer reinforces the toggle construction, however if you're vegan but still want a bespoke snood, get in touch and we can try to sort an alternative.
